Planting seeds with children is one of my favourite nature activities. This activity teaches children the importance of taking care of plants while observing their different stages of growth.
All we need are kitchen roll or a napkin, jar, beans and spray bottle. I recommend clear or transparent jar that way the kids get to see each stage of germination –from seed to the plant.
Soak some kidney beans overnight in water.
Swirl a small amount of water around the jar.
Fold your napkin or kitchen roll and place in the jar.
Place the bean seeds in the jar resting on the napkin.
Spray some water on the beans every few days.
The bean should start to grow roots after a few days. You can observe this process of germination with your children and explain them how nature works.
