Fireworks in A Jar
This simple activity explores the science behind liquid densities in a charming way. I did this experiment with my kids and were mesmerized by this easy activity.
MATERIALS:
An empty jar or glass cup
4 tbsp of cooking all
Food colouring
Water
Bowl
Paper Towels
Spoons
DIRECTIONS:
Start off by filling the jar(or cup) about ¾ of the way with water and set aside
Then in the bowl combine 3 tbsp of cooking oil with drops of food colouring. I recommend 3-4 drops of each colour, but feel free to do as much as you want.
Use the spoon to stir the mixture of cooking oil and food colouring. It will not mix but it will break the food colouring into smaller droplets
Now for the exciting part, pour the mixture into the water. You will notice the oil settle to the top but the food colouring will shoot down and begin mixing with the water.
Hope you enjoy doing this amazing experiment!
